Happy Birthday, Gabezilla

17 Feb

What’s more fun than making a “Godzilla” themed cake for a one-year-old? My buddy’s little guy was turning one, and they love to call him Gabezilla. This cake was my friend’s idea. A cute godzilla-like creature playing with his toys in the middle of NYC.

This was a 12″ chocolate cake with buttercream filling and frosting. It’s covered minimally in fondant; meaning only the decor you see in fondant is what’s covering the cake. A lot of the frosting is still peeking through. Gabezilla¬†is sculpted in rice crispy treats, as are the buildings. The cars, mini robot and mini Godzilla are sculpted in fondant.

I was later told that the cake was “too cute to eat”. But…but…it’s ALL edible!!! That’s the best part!

Absolutely adorable. Love the concept. The lettering looks positively professional. “Shanitazilla.” Hmm, that’s giving me some ideas ..

Haha! Shoot them my way! I’d love to make them a reality!
