Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star

8 Jan

One of my oldest friends in the world (I’ve known her since JHS days…back when we called it Junior High and not Middle School) asked me to make her little guy’s FIRST BIRTHDAY cake!!! What an honor!!

The inspiration was Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. This is a yellow cake filled with a light chocolate buttercream and covered in the thinnest navy blue fondant I could manage. The clouds are piped vanilla frosting. The stars are fondant/gumpaste cutouts. It’s an 8″ cake topped with a 6″ topper.

The topper was supposed to be little Gabe’s smash cake, but once the fondant was peeled back, his clothing protected and the naked cake set in front of him, the little guy just wasn’t happy about getting his hands dirty. (I feel your pain, little man!)

I can’t gush how happy it makes me to be part of any child’s first birthday celebration, but it’s especially heart warming when it’s one of my own friends. Happy Birthday, Gabriel!
