Frozen Cake

9 Jun

I was asked to do a Frozen cake earlier this Spring. Unfortunately, I knew my skills were limited when it came to sculpting the characters. I was honest about that, and my customer decided to buy the character toppers herself and have me do the rest of the cake.

Since I had nothing to do with the character toppers, I feel like I should only show the cake I actually created. And, this is it!

It’s a black and white cake- alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate cake with alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate frosting. The trees surrounding the cake and the tree up top are made with white chocolate. The reindeer is fondant and the snowflakes are gumpaste cutouts on toothpicks. The cake is covered in fondant.

I was held up in BQE traffice and the party was in full swing by the time I got to the address. I snuck the cake in while the kiddies were eating their lunch, and I was told little Fallon thought Queen Elsa magically made the cake appear with magic!

I wish I still had the pics of my earlier cakes. I never took a formal fondant class and they were REALLY….abstract looking! LOL Thank goodness my customers during that time were friends and family. They were merciless in their critique and I learned quickly!
