Not all my cakes have to be some carved, fondant-enrobed, gravity-defying sculpture. Sometimes the simplest designs are the best. This is an airplane-themed 8″ cake I designed for a 6-year-old who was getting ready to jet off to Cebu for vacation. The cake is covered in frosting, and the only trace of fondant on it is the airplane silhouette. Everything else is frosting, except for the candy stars along the top.
The cake is made of rich layers of red velvet and chocolate cake with a light ganache filling. It’s covered in cream cheese frosting, and decorated with vanilla and chocolate icing.
